Sell Religious Books and Family Bibles in Albuquerque

Family Bibles and religious books get brought to us constantly — often with a lot of emotional weight. We'll tell you honestly what yours is worth. Spoiler: most old Bibles have modest market value. But exceptions exist, and we treat every collection with care.

Are Old Bibles Worth Money?

We wrote a whole article on this — read Are Old Bibles Worth Money? for the long version. Short version: most 19th-century and early 20th-century family Bibles have modest resale value ($25–$100 in reasonable condition), because millions were printed. Pre-1800 Bibles, illuminated manuscripts, and first editions of specific translations are a different category entirely.

Religious Books That Are Usually Valuable

  • Pre-1800 Bibles and religious texts — any condition, any tradition.
  • Early American imprints — Eliot's Indian Bible (1663), Saur Bibles, Aitken Bibles.
  • Mormon / LDS early imprints — Book of Mormon first editions (1830), early Nauvoo-era material.
  • Illuminated manuscript leaves — single leaves from medieval books of hours or Bibles.
  • Jewish printing — early Hebrew imprints, especially Venice 1500s or German 1600s.
  • Catholic and Orthodox material — early missals, breviaries, hagiographies.
  • Scholarly theology — Barth, Bonhoeffer, Tillich, Teresa of Ávila first editions.

Religious Books That Usually Aren't Worth Much

  • 19th-century Victorian family Bibles (most). Big, heavy, and millions were printed.
  • 20th-century commentary and sermon books (most).
  • Common devotional books.
  • Modern translations of scripture (NIV, NASB, KJV reprints) — market is saturated.
  • Reader's Digest religious series.
  • Mass-market religious fiction (unless signed or first editions of significant authors).

The Family Bible Question

A lot of people bring us big, ornate family Bibles they inherited. These are often beautiful — gilt edges, leather bindings, pages for recording births, marriages, and deaths. We understand they feel valuable. And we wish we could tell you they're worth thousands.

In most cases, they aren't. Victorian family Bibles are one of the most over-supplied antique categories. Unless yours is pre-1830, in remarkable condition, or contains genealogical information of specific historic interest, market value is usually $50–$150 — sometimes less.

That said: we always look. There are real exceptions, and sometimes a Bible's value lies in unusual binding, unusual edition, or specific regional history. We'll tell you straight either way.

Non-Christian Religious Texts We Buy

  • Early printed Hebrew Bibles and Talmudic texts.
  • Early Islamic manuscripts (subject to provenance).
  • Early Buddhist sutras, Japanese woodblock printed religious texts.
  • Hindu and Sanskrit early printings.
  • Sikh and Parsi religious material.
  • Mormon, Christian Science, and Jehovah's Witness early imprints.

Before You Decide to Sell a Family Bible

Family Bibles often contain genealogical records (birth/marriage/death pages) that matter to descendants. Before selling, consider scanning these pages for family records. If a Bible is important to a family member, it belongs with them — not on the market. We'll happily tell you what it's worth and let you decide what to do with it.
